Page breaks

How to end a page where you want it with a line of three equals signs.

On this page

Calmly Script decides where each page ends, the way a screenplay is paginated. When you want the next line to start a new page anyway (before a new part, or after a prologue), write a page break: a line of three equals signs and nothing else.

What you type

The lights go out, one by one.

===

INT. EMPTY THEATRE - LATER

Dust in the beam of a single spotlight.

How it prints

Writing one in Calmly Script

Type === on a line of its own. The line becomes a page break on the third =, and the three characters stay on the line, dimmed: that is how you can see it is a break. Press Enter↩ after it and the next line is action.

You can also use Format › More elements › Page break. It does not change the line you are on: it inserts the break on a new line under it (or on the line itself, if the line is empty), and puts the caret on the line after the break, at the top of the new page.

More than three are fine: a line of ===== is a page break too, and it is kept the way you typed it. Two are not: == is an ordinary line of action. So deleting one of the three = is how you take a page break back out.

A page break needs the line to itself. Anything else on it, even a word after the ===, makes it an ordinary line again.

A === typed among the lines of a title page ends the title page there, and is a page break.

How it prints

The page ends at the break, and the line after it prints at the top of the next page. The === itself does not print, and neither does anything in its place: the rest of the page is left empty.
