Full screen, type size and focus

Filling the screen with the script, making the text larger or smaller on screen, and dimming everything but the line you are writing.

Full screen

View › Toggle full screen, or F11 on Windows and Linux, fills the screen with the window. The same command takes it back. On a Mac the entry uses the system’s own full screen.

On Android the app already fills the screen, so the entry is not there. What you can hide on Android is the system’s status bar, in Settings (see Settings).

Larger or smaller text

View › Increase font size Ctrl++⌘+
View › Decrease font size Ctrl+-⌘-
View › Actual Size Ctrl+0⌘0

These step through the sizes offered under Font size in Settings › Screen text, from 50% to 400%, and View › Actual Size goes back to 100%. The size you leave it at is kept for the next time.

They change the text you write in and nothing else. The printed page, the PDF, the Word export and the Preview are always set in 12-point Courier, whatever size you read the script in on screen. The same goes for the font and the line spacing in Settings › Screen text.

A larger size makes the writing column wider, because the column is measured in characters. If the window has no room left for it, the Outline floats over the text instead of standing beside it.

Fewer distractions

Settings › Distraction free has three switches:

  • Focus Mode dims every line of the script but the one you are writing. The slider under it sets how faint the rest goes, and the three sample lines beside it show the result. Ctrl+M turns Focus Mode on and off (⇧⌘M on a Mac). It is switched off while you search, so the lines you are looking through can be read.
  • Non-blinking caret keeps the caret still.
  • Hide the menu bar when typing, on when you start: the title bar with the menus fades out while you type and comes back when you move the pointer to the top of the window. It stays in view while the Preview is showing.
